Chinese Taipei’s 109-62 win against Malaysia had a lot of connotations. For one, it took the Taipei into the quarterfinals as the No 3 team from Group E, then put paid to Malaysian hopes of a last eight finish, and finally ensured Lebanon also made the play-offs.

There was an unexpected change of weather in Wuhan in the last 48 hours – from hot and humid to bone-chilling and very wet – but on the court of the Wuhan Sports Center twice defending champions Iran’s downpour of points continued. Falling to Iran’s rampage on Monday – in first game of the Second Round, in Group E – was Malaysia, who went down 36-121.

MAS/UAE - Malaysia cap a final rally with win; UAE down Bahrain

Malaysia capped a final fourth burst with a 71-67 win against India in a crucial Group A game on Friday, thus virtually clinching a place in the Second Round. In another game at the Wongshan Center, UAE kept their hopes alive in Group D beating fellow GCC team Bahrain 91-53.
