There was this oddity of a moment when both Syria and UAE were celebrating at the end of the 9th place play-off which the former had won 76-72.

Syria and United Arab Emirates scored contrasting wins on Friday in the 9-12 Classification to set up a contest with each other for the 9th spot.

SYR/UAE - Syria keep flicker of quarterfinal hopes alive

Syria coach Goran Miljevic had a concerned look on his even after the team defeated United Arab Emirates 80-73 in Tuesday’s Group F game. For, the win rekindled the hopes of a place in the quarterfinals for the WABA team, but also pitted them with need to beat the high-flying Philippines in Wednesday’s game to turn those hopes into a reality.
