Wuhan semifinal China’s most watched sport event this year

WUHAN, China (26th FIBA Asia Championship): The FIBA Asia Championship semi-final game between China and Korea played last night peaked at 35 million viewers generating a reach of 81 million making it the highest rated sports programme on CCTV-5 in 2011. This beats the previous 2011 record set by Wuhan born, Li Na’s French Open Final which peaked at 34.54 million.

FIBA Asia President Sheikh Saud Bin Ali Al-Thani said: “This is excellent news and a great tribute to everyone involved in the Championship and to CCTV’s presentation of the event.  Hopefully we can have even more viewers for tonight’s Final.”

China play Jordan tonight at 20.00 local time aiming to recapture the FIBA Asia title that they last won in 2005 while Jordan are looking for their very first title.

On the world wide web too, the event has generated a record high. The number of hits on the event website http://wuhan2011.fibaasia.net at the end of the quarterfinals was more than a million with more hits reeling in.
